An interaction program between Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and the Nepali community in New York has been postponed. The event, originally scheduled for Sunday evening, had to be called off despite all preparations being in place.

The Nepali Consulate General in New York, in a press release, said the program was called off due to the busy schedules of Prime Minister Oli and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, who were engaged in the United Nations General Assembly, the Summit of the Future, and other sideline meetings.

The event had to be postponed also in view of the suggestions of the agencies concerned about the security sensitivity of the program venue, read the press release. According to sources, the program was postponed after local security officials informed the organizers that they could not guarantee the safety of VIPs. This followed social media calls for a black flag protest by the Foreign Department of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party and identity-based Nepali organizations in New York.
