Two rhinos have been found dead in Chitwan in the past two days.
The deaths of the rhinos have brought the total number of rhino deaths reported in the past five months to five.
According to Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, Assistant Conservation Officer and Information Officer at the Chitwan National Park, a 15-year-old female rhino was found dead in Gundrahi Dhakaha Madhyawarti Community Forest on the western sector of the Lamichaur post on Wednesday morning.
The rhino was found by the National Park team during regular patrol.
Tiwari informed that the pachyderm might have succumbed to her injuries from a territorial clash with another rhino.
The second rhino, a six-month-old male, was also found dead in the western sector, along the bank of the Narayani River in the Amaltari Kujauri post. The infant is suspected to have been attacked by a tiger, said Tiwari.
The number of rhinos dying because of territorial fights and tiger attacks has been on the rise in recent years.
